On February 9, 2010, Daubenspeck Community Nature Park became one of five winners of the first-ever Indianapolis Sustainability Awards. Mayor Ballard presented the awards, a product of his newly formed "Office of Sustainability." www.sustainindy.org
The competition attracted 70 applicants including corporate, non-profit, and community projects from all over the City. Three finalists were selected from each of the five categories: Air, Land, Water, Indy press release
Patti Tehan and Deb Ellman attended the ceremony on behalf of the park and accepted the award, a hand-carved wood (sustainably harvested) sculpture by local artist Ray Duffey.
The audience was a broad who's-who of the environmental and business leaders in Central Indiana including representatives of IPL, Eli Lilly, Covanta, Indiana Recycling Coalition, Hoosier Environmental Council, Keramida, Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, and many more.
