About Us
The PLACE
Daubenspeck Community Nature Park is a rare, green-space haven
of approximately 22 acres at 8900 Ditch Road in Indianapolis, Indiana.
It is free and open to the public and pets. (Please see Park Rules.)
Year round, you can enjoy a peaceful walk on the grass trail through
restored tall native prairie grasses and wildflowers. Educational signs
and trail guides at the park kiosk inform you of the many plantings and
wildlife at Daubenspeck.
The NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION
DCNP is not a city park or private park. It is 100% volunteer-run as a
non-profit organization. The mission is for "community and nature to
enhance each other" through education, enjoyment, habitat, environ-
mental benefits, civic opportunities, and more. The organization is led
by a board of directors. DCNP Inc. is a charitable non-profit (IRS
501-C-3) funded by individual donations, corporate support, and
grants. Donations are tax-deductible.
Who owns the land?
The open 14+ acres (now the prairie) was a farm field donated for
public use by the Daubenspeck family in 1960. The Metropolitan
School District of Washington Township owns it and leases it to DCNP
in a unique public/non-profit/community arrangement.
The 7+ acre woods to the north is owned by the neighboring North
Willow Farms Homeowners Association, which also leases it to DCNP
as a management partnership. How the park came to be.
